General Questions

Can artworks purchased from Equus Studio be altered? Who retains the copyright once an artwork is purchased?

Alterations, customizations, and copying or reproducing any artwork from Equus Studio is prohibited. All rights are retained by Jen Pratt, the artist. If an artwork becomes damaged we ask that you have it repaired either by Equus Studio or an artist approved by Equus Studio.

How do the payment plans work?

The payment plan is set up through PayPal in either 2, 3, 4, or 6 month installments. These payment plans are available for all items & artworks on this website if the total purchase (before shipping) is equal to or above $50. The first payment is 1/3 of the total amount (price of the artwork plus shipping and taxes), and the rest of the amount is divided into equal payments (for 2 month installment plans, each payment is 1/2 of the total amount).

What happens if I cannot pay off the balance?

One-third of the balance is non-refundable. The rest of the payment can either be used as a credit towards the purchase of another artwork or refunded back to you. If you choose the credit, the entire balance (including the non-refundable amount) will be applied to your newly chosen artwork(s).

Example - If you pay $600 towards a sculpture that totals $900, but cannot pay the balance, $300 is non-refundable. If you choose the refund, you will receive $300 back. If you choose to credit the money towards a new artwork, such as a sculpture that totals $700, you will only have to pay $100 to receive your new sculpture.

If I choose the payment plan, when will I recieve my artworks?

The payment plan option is basically a type of layaway. The sculpture will be marked as sold and held until your final payment. Once the final payment has cleared, we will notify you and ship your artwork(s) within 3 business days.

Shipping FAQ's

I want to purchase an artwork and will be in the Springfield, MO area. Can I pick the work up instead of having it shipped?

You can do a local pickup for artworks at no charge for shipping (if you wish for a sculpture to be crated for travel there will be a $35 charge). In order to process your order without the shipping charges, email us with a list of works you want to pick up and how you wish to pay (either cash at pickup or PayPal before pickup). If you choose to pay with paypal, we will send you a detailed invoice of the artworks you have chosen with a PayPal link. Click on the link and pay securely through PayPal. If you choose to use PayPal, you will need to pay approximately 5 days in advance of picking up the artworks.

Limited Edition Prints:

What is the process used to create the limited edition prints?

  • All limited edition prints are archival, professional quality prints, printed from a Canon Pixma Pro9500 printer. The printer uses a 10-color pigment ink system that resists the damaging effects of light for up to 100 years. Unless otherwise stated, images will be printed onto a matte photo paper which is archival in nature and resists the yellowing effects of age. Any other papers that may be used will be archival in nature, and the description of the artwork will specify exactly the type of paper used.

Quality of prints?

  • Limited edition prints from Equus Studio are archival, long lasting, and of professional photo lab quality. Each print shows exceptional detail and is indistinguishable from the original from which it is taken.

Ceramic Sculptures:

How long do ceramic sculptures last?

  • There are many examples of clay sculptures lasting for hundreds, sometimes thousands of years. Many horse sculptures are still around from ancient Chinese dynasties, dating back hundreds of years. There are exhibitions even today at major metropolitan museums showcasing ceramic sculptures from West Mexico dating back to 300 - 400 B.C., almost two thousand years ago. In its fired form, clay is very durable, and when kept in a home environment can be passed down generation after generation.

What does the term "Original" mean?

  • When pertaining to artworks it means that there are no copies of that artwork. When you purchase an original sculpture from Equus Studio, it is the only work of its kind, it is the hand-sculpted artwork produced by the artist.

How do I care for a sculpture?

  • Ceramic sculptures are very easy to take care of . The best way to handle them is to pick them up with one hand by the bulkiest part of the body (the neck under the chin for horse heads, the main part of the body for figures). Use the other hand to support the bottom of the base.
  • Cleaning the sculptures is simply done by dusting them with a soft feather duster. Be gentle around delicate areas such as the ears or legs. Occasionally you can wipe them down with a soft damp cloth. Use water only - chemicals and cleaning agents can damage the finish. Do not leave standing water on the sculpture or on its base.

Can a sculpture be fixed if it is damaged?

  • Ceramic sculptures can be fixed, especially if it is a minor break. Small parts like ears, legs, or bridle pieces can be reattached without a seam, so the piece looks as if it was never broken. Larger breaks can be more difficult, but unless a sculpture is shattered it is usually quite repairable. The entire piece will be repainted to give it a seamless look when finished. See the Customer Support page for more information.

How are ceramic sculptures made?

  • See our Clay Sculpture Site to view how Jen's sculptures are made and detailed information on the sculpture process.

Can I place the sculpture outside?

  • These sculptures were made to be kept indoors, and may be damaged if they get wet.
